Essential Functions and Objectives:
The Data Specialist supports data and reporting needs within the Denver Public Schools Family and Community Engagement team related to student achievement outcomes. The Specialist optimizes data usability by developing databases to be used by Family and Community Engagement to streamline analyses for programming district wide.  The Data Specialist will frequently develop systems for data collection, write queries to pull data, maintain databases, document logic for data extraction, and write reports using a variety of tools. The Data Specialist will perform regular data migration, provide technical and training support to the Family and Community Engagement team and develop and execute processes to load both vendor- and State-supplied assessment data into department databases.
- Develop and maintain databases to be used by Family and Community Engagement team to streamline analyses, including documentation of rules for these databases.
- Develop streamlined processes for state submissions that Family and Community Engagement is responsible for, including the preparation for submissions (e.g., reviewing documentation on state websites).
- Perform regular data migration to external assessment vendor systems (e.g., Connecting Colorado, Efforts to Outcomes, and OnCorps).
- Provide technical support to Family and Community Engagement and partner agency teams with rostering, loading data, etc.
- Develop and execute processes for loading of required state and federal data reporting.
- Lead training for data management, quality control and systems accuracy for Family and Community Engagement and partner agency teams.
- Work with Family and Community Engagement staff during vendor negotiations to inform contract from technical perspective and needs and work closely with the Family and Community Engagement leadership team.

Knowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:
- Three to five years of experience in performing similar tasks.
- Strong background in data manipulation.
- Extensive experience in working with relational databases.
- Extensive experience with query and data import/export functionality.
- Proficiency in accessing and manipulating data as well as fluency with one or more of the following applications:  MS Access, Google Docs, SQL, etc.
- Proficiency in formula/expression writing in MS Excel and MS ACCESS.
- Report skills using MS Access, SQL, MS Excel, Server Reporting Services, Excel Services, etc.
- Data modeling and database design skills.
- Ability to discuss issues at a technical and non-technical level with programmers and project stakeholders.
- Ability to multitask, strong attention to detail required and ability to prioritize diverse work assignment in a timely and accurate manner.
- A demonstrated customer-service orientation and positive attitude.
- Handle confidential information with a high degree of integrity.
- Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to perform troubleshooting techniques to isolate, diagnose and repair system and data defects.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with assigned client groups.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or social sciences. Master’s degree preferred
