Job Description
POSITION:                      Employment and Labor Policy Internship
LOCATION:                    Denver, CO
SEMESTER:                     Fall 2018   
 
HOURS/PAY:                                
$15/hr; Part-time, flexible 20-25 hours a week.  Many colleges and universities will give academic credit for internships. It is the student’s responsibility to contact his or her advisor and obtain academic credit within the institution’s guidelines. 
 
DESCRIPTION: 
The National Conference of State Legislatures is seeking an intern to work on labor issues, including occupational licensing and workforce development. The intern will work under the supervision of NCSL Employment, Labor and Retirement Program staff.
 
SPECIFIC PROJECTS / TASKS:
The intern will be called on to prepare concise and accurate responses to legislative requests for information on a variety of topics, track legislation on occupational licensing and workforce development, write briefs, and assist with website development.
 
The intern will have opportunities to research and write for NCSL publications such as the NCSL Blog and have their work published with attribution.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:                   
Qualified candidates must be currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or graduate or law program, and possess strong computer and research skills. Candidates must demonstrate skill and competence in writing clearly, communicating effectively and organizing complex assignments.
 
Candidates must be able to research all aspects of state laws including state statutes, state legislation, and state regulations. Experience with the state legislative process is a plus, as is familiarity with labor or workforce development policy. Candidates currently in graduate school or law school may be given preference.
